Church of The New Testament
OUR HISTORY
The Church of the New Testament was organized on January 3, 1954 by Pastor Sylvester “Bill” Jones, Lay-Preacher Rolland Allen and Sister Mary Easley. It is a non-denominational church which offers fellowship participation to any citizen regardless of race or religious denomination. The Lord led them to begin this work of faith on 1137 Poquito Street under a tree in the home of Brother Allen in Austin, Texas. In the years of 1955 through 1959 the membership grew which required a larger facility to utilize meetings. The next location was a larger home of the first convert, Sister Dorothy Anderson on East 8th street. Church of the New Testament charter was filed in the office of the Secretary of State on 25th day of February, 1957 in the presence of Morise Dixon, Jr., Rolland Allen and Sylvester Jones. The value of goods, chattels, lands, rights and credits were estimated at $1,400.00 (cash and property consisting of: a pulpit, tape recorder, one loud speaker, bibles, hymn books, number of folding chairs, four pews and a typewriter). The purpose of this Christian organization was to form the support of public worship and to conduct Christian activities on a non-sectarian, non-profit basis. The principal location of worship was on 1623 East Eighth Street of Austin, Texas. During the first year of operation three members were appointed as Board of Directors: Morise Dixon, Jr., Rolland Allen and Sylvester Jones.
